“I couldn’t be without my winter beanie hat and a good, strong mug of English tea whilst in the David Austin gardens in Winter. As the roses move into dormancy, and the beautiful rose hips pepper the branches that are losing their leaves, we’re focussing on planting in bare root roses and mulching around the base of the plants to keep in the warmth and suppress the weeds; it also helps avoid any wind rock too. We advise leaving pruning until the roses are in a dormant state in January or February, but now is the opportune time to nip back any flailing long growth that’s not in keeping with the shape of the plant.”
